Student Work—Weaving

Teaching

Faculty of the Year Award, The Art Institute of Portland, 2007
Sabbatical Award, The Art Institute of Portland, 2010

Students often tell me that my passion for what I teach is obvious.  I like to remind them of the importance of joy in design.  My role is to create a learner-centered environment where students access excellent technical information, research innovative approaches and consider controversial opinions for an inspiring classroom culture of inquiry.  Within this setting, I coach students to develop their own voice and style.

Over the past 15 years, I have designed and taught a range of courses including: textile structures, surface design, sustainable design, fashion history, fashion forecasting, art history and basic design.

My students have garnered national and international recognition for their work, competing as finalists, winning prizes, and being featured in exhibitions.
